I rested in the morning, as you can see from the photos blow. Waited for Eileen to finish organizing and repacking, then rode with Tom R. and Eileen to REI for some new miscellaneous gear. After, Eileen and I took a Segway history tour of downtown Austin. Never been on a Segway before, but after five weeks on a bicycle, it was a piece of cake. Long tour, so my feet were sore towards the end. We toured the capitol grounds, Congrss St., Sixth St., Willie Nelson sculpture, and across the river and back. The tour guide yodeled every time we needed to pass on the sidewalks. Kind of corny, but effective!
On the way to REI, the three of us came across a sculpture of 1,254 bicycles welded together. They appeared to be made of stainless steel, and the wheels actually turned. The photos do not do it justice!
After the tour, back to the Hostel to get my night lights, then out to Bangors on Rainey St. where they only serve sausage and beer, but lots of it! I had antelope sausage, with a couple different local brews, then rode back up to Sixth St. which was no more impressive at night than it was during the day. Perhaps it is because it was on a Wednesday, instead of a weekend.
Seeing nothing that atrracted me on Sixth St., I rode down Congress Street to a famous Austin night spot, the Continental Club. I watched the last 30 minutes of a country band, then they left, as the club started collecting a cover charge. It was about 2130, and the others were not going to be there until several hours later, so I rode back to the Hostel. Night riding was fine, as I had front and rear lights.
