Day 34 - October 13, 2017 - 30.62 miles, 1,617 feet ascent, 1,555 feet descent

Lost Maples State Park, TX to Hunt, TX

Today was suppsed to be a 43 mile day, to Ingram, TX.  Instead, we decided to camp out at our lunch spot, and did not proceed any further!

So, a little history...

As it turns out, one of our fellow riders, Neal, has a friend right on the route, at about mile 30.  She really wanted to provide lunch for us, so arrangements were made, and most of us met up at Clare's house (the first two riders did not want to stop.). Clare is such a wonderful, gracious host, and she talked us into spending the night.  We are only 13 miles from where we would have spent the night, so tomorrow will be 13 miles longer.  Well worth the sacrifice!  Clare lavished us with water, snacks, wine, lunch, dinner, more wine, dessert, and even a swim in the Guadalupe river! The swim was a much needed break, as I was suffering from some sort of allergy that caused my right eye to swell and water, and caused my nose to run constantly. My eye swelled so much that my eyelashes were rubbing on my sunglasses! Took an antihistamine, and things got better, especially after the cool down in the river.

Clare provided showers and allowed use of her laundry facilities as well. Some of us are sleeping in her guest houses. Yes, she has two guest houses! What a wonderful 86 year old Texas woman! She enjoyed our stay even more than we did, believe it or not, and she would like to do this more often. She is a true "Bicyclist's Angel!"
