Johnson City, TX to Austin, TX
It was a great riding day from Johnson City to Austin. Johnson City is the boyhood home of Lyndon B. Johnson, but the town was not named after him. I believe it was named after his grandfather. Unfortunately, I did not have time to visit the LBJ National Historic Site. After breakfast at a dive restaurant, I ride with Tom R. through the last of the Texas Hill Country, through which we came across Pedernales Falls State Park. We did not go see the falls, but kept riding instead. After all, Austin awaits! When the road exits the stat park, we came to a water flow ac oss the road. We had been forewarned via our group message app about this crossing, as it was quite slippery, and there was a steep climb of 14% grade immediately after the water. The members who had crossed early on warned us to get in the granny bar before we cross the water, otherwise it would be too late. Well, I got there first, traversed the water, and climbed the wall with no problem. Tom R., Tom C., Eileen, and Neal, were all behind me, but they elected to walk, hence the photo below!
We continued to ride together as a group the rest of the way to Austin. Good thing, as some of the route directions were either confusing or wrong. Working together as a team, we made it, without getting lost or injured (who likes urban riding, anyway?)
After settling in at the Hostel International Austin, I took a Uber to Terry Black's BBQ, one of a couple famous BBQ joints in Austin. The brisket melts in your mouth!
Looking forward to a couple days off to rest these weary muscles!
