Brackettville, TX to Camp Wood, TX
Fort Clark Springs was a nice little pre-WWII US Army Fort, with many period buildings, including barracks, officers' quarters, recreation buildings, and for us, an RV Park. Left early in the morning under overcast skies, and rode back to the route, through the town of Brackettville. The buildings in Brackettville looked just like those on the old Camp. The road soon returned to the famous Texas chip seal, Texas sized chips. Ranches forever and ever on this ride, some with seven foot fences to keep the deer in (for hunting purposes.). We thought we would return to real roads in Real County, but that was not to be.
Rode by myself all day, stopping a couple times to refuel. Not a lot of climbing, but just enough to get the sweat glands going! Interesting photo opportunities today as you can tell. Texans have a sense of humor!
Speaking of Texans, I am super impressed with how courteous the drivers are, giving bicyclists plenty of room by moving over into the opposite lane, when safe. We have not experienced any anger or road rage in Texas, as we did in California, Arizona, and New Mexico. I am also impressed with how nice the people are whom we talk to, whether in a store or restaurant. This has completely turned around my impression of Texas. There is very little litter along the Texas roads that we have ridden, unlike Arizona and New Mexico, where it seems no one has ever. Leaned it, and everyone throws th beverage containers out the window. Texas is clean, including the air! I'm ready this move here!
Arrived in Camp Wood (not a military camp) at the Three Sisters RV Park, where I set up my tent on the dance platform in the pavilion. No dew on my tent in the morning!
