Hunt, TX to Fredericksburg, TX
A couple days behind in positing, first due to lack of cell and internet service, then because I was so tired due to the antihistamines I was taking. I was so drowsy that I was dozing off at dinner, then again as I was on the phone with Dianne. Again today my left eye was watering, and my nose was running. Couldn't wear my sunglasses because my eyelid hit the lens. Miserable riding conditions, then when we got to Kerville, I bough the Benadryl.
It was sad to leave Clare's place in Hunt, as she was the consummate hostess. As we proceeded along the Guadalupe river, we noted the many boys and girls camps, mansions, and ranches along the river. Everything was lush green and picture perfect. The Hill Country "T" Party was out for a weekend ride, with over 100 Ford Model Ts on the road. We did not see the. All, but pictured below are a few samples. Very nice people, waving and honking as they passed by in the opposite direction. Wouldn't you know it, we also passed BMW clubs, Mustang clubs, and even motorcycle groups, all out for a Saturday drive. They probably thought the same of us - bicyclists out for a weekend ride!
We soon rode into Kerr County, and Kerrville, where I had to get pictures of the signs for our friends, Rich and Chris, and their extended family. Just before Kerr County, though, was the small town of Ingram, with a very well funded arts center. In front of the arts center was a smaller scale Stonehenge, and the Easter Island statues. Funny that the tree was planted near one of the statues. Makes it look like a chia sculpture with an afro!
We had a second breakfast in Kerrville, then departed for Fredericksburg. The road out of Kerrville to the outskirts of Fredericksburg was absolutely gorgeous. Limestone chipseal with no cracks or potholes, very smooth, and rolling through ranches and farmland. Looked exactly like some of the rides in Northern California, except more bucolic.
