Palo Verde, CA to Quartzsite, AZ
Breakfast this morning was provided by Winnie's team - breakfast burritos. Finally left camp at 0723, with four of us heading nort towards Blythe, through the Palo Verde farmlands. Lots of bugs in our teeth and mouths! Flat all the way to Blythe, where we had a second breakfast at a local old fashioned coffee shop. After breakfast #2, we headed east toward the Colorado River. Took some photos of the river and border crossing, then started our small climbs of the day.
Our destination is the Quartzsite Yacht Club, where we will stay for the night. I was put up in the Yacht, literally (see photo.) after cleaning up and r sting for a bit, a few of us went across the street to McDonalds, where I downed a couple. Erynlarge iced teas, and a fruit smoothie. Then off to the famous bookstore, where the proprietor wears only a thong. Wasn't quite my thing, but it is what the small group wanted to do. Quartzsite is a unique place, where I pre iously drove through quickly, perhaps vein stopping for gas. Nothing Iike bicycling and walking through town. Only the locals are here now, but come winter, the population swells to upwards of a million people, all snowbirds.
Dinner was at Silly Al's Pizza, which seems to be the hot spot in town. It was good that no one had to cook, as it is hot and cramped. The Yacht, though, is very cool!
Tomorrow will be another short day, to Salome, AZ, with more indoor accommodations. The ACA felt that it is too hot to camp every night - thank goodness!
