Wickenburg, AZ to Tempe, AZ
For me, today's ride was somewhat uneventful, although lengthy. Pedals down at 0630. Long, flat ride from Wickenburg, although there was some descent toward Phoenix. I stopped in Surprise at Lowes to buy some hardware for one of my panniers. It appears that a few days ago, the bottom clip got loose and fell off. Now my pannier flops around, although it hasn't been bad. Had a bite to eat, and soon was on my way again. This stop was almost halfway to the destination, at about mile 35. I soon turned on to the bike path on the Arizona Canal, which took me all the way to Tempe. The bike path had underpasses beneath the major streets, so I stopped at an early underpass, in the shade, and had the rest of my lunch, a ham and cheese sandwich. Further down the path, with about 20 miles to go, I had a pain in my right knee. This hindered my ability to speed along, but I grinned and neared it. I will look up later whether this is a seat height or a cleat placement symptom. I was also getting tir demand hot, so I left the path momentarily to stop at a convenience store for cold water. Ah, the pause that refreshes!
Back in the saddle, and off to Tempe. I stopped and chatted with a couple other cyclists (not in our group), who noted all the panniers, and queried me on where I was riding from, and to where. They were genuinely interested, and offered anecdotes of their own bicycle tours.
Finally made it to the Motel 6 on South Priest Road in Tempe. Registered quickly, showered, and off to a scheduled appointment with a massage therapist. Two hours later, I felt wonderful!
Rest day tomorrow, and hope to take full advantage of it!
